Key points
- Define the range by the clock (first 15 or 30 minutes after the 9:30 a.m. ET cash open) and never change it mid-test.
- Cancel the setup on release days, large gaps, and ranges far wider or narrower than their recent average.
- Size from the stop: 1R is entry to stop, the target is 2R, and anything still open at 11:30 a.m. ET is closed.
- False breakouts, chasing and slippage are the normal failure modes; log planned versus actual fills on every trade.
- Treat the card as a hypothesis: test it on past sessions and in simulation, journal in R, then keep, fix or drop it.
